A special Artist for us in a heritage site on the other bank of the Rhône river

Louise Cara is one of those artists who captivates and provoks thoughts and feelings.

We have followed her work for years and witnessed the artist’s evolution: evolution in her lines, her gestures, her intensity, and her intention.

The exhibition she is inaugurating this summer at the Chartreuse de Villeneuve Lez Avignon is of rare beauty. In harmony with Claude Garanjoud’s work in a chapel, Louise’s canvases take on a spiritual dimension. They spread in “Tracés de Lumière” in this place where the sun manages to pierce through.

At the Chartreuse de Villeneuve from June 30 to September 22, 2024

In a labyrinthine maze where the chants of the monks still resonate along with the intensity of the artistic work of the resident guests, Louise Cara’s canvases find the depth that suits them.

Her rigorous work, with some pieces created specifically for this location, fully flourishes, gains meaning, and finds its path in the upper room when our eyes rest on the “Manteaux des Éveillés” executed for the Fez Festival in Morocco, a land dear to the painter’s heart.

From July 23 to August 27, 2024, every Tuesday, you also have the unique opportunity to discover, in the presence of a cultural mediator, the works of Louise Cara and Claude Garanjoud, facilitating a dialogue between two pictorial techniques, two spiritual beings. Book your visit.

Otherwise, this exhibition is to be savoured in meditative silence, with an openness to discovering forms, materials, and techniques. Enjoy this exceptional place that is the Chartreuse de Villeneuve, a haven of coolness, aesthetics, culture, and peace amidst the stony surroundings of Villeneuve and its neighbour Avignon.
