Renowned artists in Avignon

What about a summer at the Lambert Collection ?

The Lambert Collection is an exceptional patrimonial wealth. It is located in two beautiful mansions built in the eighteenth century by Jean-Baptiste Franque, the hotels of Caumont and Montfaucon, which were remarkably redeveloped respectively by Rudy Ricciotti and the brothers Cyrille and Laurent Berger to meet the needs of the museum .

You will discover from June 30 to September 30, 2019, in the Lambert Collection, this private museum of contemporary art of Avignon, in addition to a selection of works from the permanent collection, four exhibitions :

BASQUIAT REMIX

The exhibition presented at the Lambert Collection goes back to the sources of the raw energy of Jean-Michel Basquiat’s painting. The radiant talent of this young prodigy is the symbol of a new way of looking at art in the 80s.

Basquiat is here in dialogue with Matisse, Picasso, Twombly. These three great masters primarly inspired him and Basquiat borrows part of their formal vocabulary.

VIK MUNIZ: IMAGINARIA

As part of the Grand Arles Express, the famous Brazilian artist Vik Muniz returns to the papal city eight years after his great monographic exhibition to present a series of unpublished works in Europe.

Entitled Imaginaria, the series exhibited at the Lambert Collection is made up of 15 photographs depicting Saints as represented by the greatest artists : from Simon Vouet’s Saint Agnes to Saint Augustine by Philippe de Champaigne to the San Sebastián de Jose Ribeira.

Born from installations made from incongruous everyday objects – sugar, ketchup, toys, thread, cut magazines, etc. – Vik Muniz’s photographs include images from the collective memory.

A NORMAL WORKING DAY: EXHIBITION / PERFORMANCE

As part of the Swiss Selection in Avignon, artist Zimoun and performers Nadine Fuchs and Marco Delgado team up for an immersive exhibition / performance project started in 2013 and redeployed throughout the summer in the basement of the Lambert Collection.

Last but not least … Miryam Haddad, “Sleep is not a safe place” from July 1 – September 29, 2019. She is the author of the poster festival IN Avignon 2019.
