When spring and roses are coming in Avignon
When spring is coming in Provence, my friend the Rose blossoms in Avignon. The most romantic flower is honoured within a long week-end in the tremendous site of the Pope Palace from Saturday, May 19th up to Monday, May 21st from 9am to 7pm. In the heart of the Benoît XII cloister, more than 2000 rose bushes will exhibit their beauty.
Alterarosa is the opportunity to see the greatest French rose breeders as they present their latest creations. This event presents the latest names, the latest fragrances and the new colours. It is a sensorial experience for the entire family.
Alterarosa refers to “Altera Roma”, the Other Rome as Avignon is also known.
This event is a unique festival of roses which presents the latest creations. The fabulous pop-up rose garden that blooms for the Alterarosa festival is once again the star at the Palace of the Popes, in the majestic Cloister.
Two guided visits are suggested :
– If the story of Rose and Flore were being told – roses and flowers within the art creation.
A 2 hours tour to discover roses and flowers symbolism in the Middle Age, through selected paintings in the Petit Palais Museum and the Pope Place, Unesco classified sites.

– In the secret gardens
Behind a door, in discreet and sometimes narrow streets, beautiful and unexpected gardens are hiding themselves. This 2 hours tour will lead you in five gardens including three private ones.
