With his exhibition COSMOS, Jean-Michel Othoniel lights up Avignon<\/strong><\/h1>\n

A monumental exhibition blending poetry, light, and love<\/strong><\/h4>\n

From June 28, 2025 to January 4, 2026<\/strong>, Avignon will host COSMOS or the Ghosts of Love<\/em>, an exceptional exhibition by Jean-Michel Othoniel.<\/p>\n

To celebrate the 25th anniversary of Avignon\u2019s title as European Capital of Culture<\/strong> and the 30th anniversary of its historic center\u2019s inclusion on the UNESCO World Heritage List<\/strong>, the city is undergoing a unique artistic transformation.<\/p>\n

The artist, known for his glass artworks and poetic installations<\/strong>, will present over 250 works<\/strong>, including 160 new creations<\/strong>, across ten iconic sites<\/strong>: the Palais des Papes<\/strong>, Pont Saint-B\u00e9n\u00e9zet<\/strong> (the famous Bridge of Avignon), Mus\u00e9e Calvet<\/strong>, Collection Lambert<\/strong>, Mus\u00e9e du Petit Palais<\/strong>, and more. The city becomes a stage for an artistic journey interweaving emotion, memory, and light<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

A poetic journey through Avignon\u2019s heritage landmarks<\/strong><\/h4>\n

The exhibition invites visitors to embark on a poetic exploration through Avignon\u2019s most beautiful heritage sites. Each venue features works that resonate with its history. At the Palais des Papes<\/strong>, following the Cruise<\/em> fashion show by Nicolas Ghesqui\u00e8re for LVMH, which contrasted contemporary creations with the ancient stones, Othoniel\u2019s monumental installations engage in a dialogue with Gothic architecture. On the Pont Saint-B\u00e9n\u00e9zet<\/strong>, suspended creations evoke the passage of time.<\/p>\n

Othoniel draws inspiration from Petrarch\u2019s Canzoniere<\/em><\/strong>, a poetic collection written in tribute to Laura, whom he met in Avignon in the 14th century. The exhibition becomes an ode to lost love<\/strong>, to beauty, and to the ephemeral nature of life<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
